ALLAHABAD: While announcing the exam schedule, the UP Board had said that it would use social media, hologram on answer copies and CCTV cameras in galleries of examination centres to check copying. However, till Wednesday evening, merely 12 hours before the start of the exams, none of these announcements have been fulfilled. To put a tab on copy mafia, state education department also decided to issue identity cards to invigilators and centre managers but that too has not fructified till date. During a recent visit to the city, state secondary education minister Mehboob Ali had declared that galleries of examination centres situated in rural areas would be equipped with CCTV cameras by February 18.
There were also plans to post examination related information on facebook and twitter for the benefit of examinees. It was also planned to register complaints regarding the board examinations on social media but no step has been taken in this regard too. During failure to fulfill all its promises, the board is also plagued by allegations of creating new examination centres even after finalization of the list of centres across the state. It has been alleged that the board officials made 121 new centres across the centres out of which three are in Allahabad.
However, UP Board secretary Amarnath Verma said, "The allegation is baseless as it is impossible to 'insert' centres after the state-wide list of centres is finalised." Sources also claimed that CCTV project was put off as it not feasible. An officer said, "Schools are already suffering from fund crunch. They cannot be forced into installing cameras in galleries. Putting hologram on one crore answer-sheets is time consuming and impossible this year. As far as adopting facebook and twitter is concerned we were not informed by the minister," said an official preferring anonymity. Meanwhile, UP Madhyamik Sikshak Sangh president LK Mishra said, "The education department is all set to ensure that copying takes place without hindrance in the examination centres. It is for the same reason that the government did not issue admit cards despite having ample time."
